INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME
We are developing our international programme, taking the approach of our Oxford Conferences to new venues and countries.
In Autumn 2007 and 2008 we held successful events in partnership with the British Council, and hosted by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research. Click here for more information. 2008 also saw an event held in Oslo in partnership with the University of Oslo.
Now, working in partnership with the British Council we have a concentrated programme of events taking place in Autumn 2009 and Spring 2010 in New York, Brussels, Montpellier and Cape Town. All events are by personal invitation but if you are interested in finding out more click here
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME DATES AND INFO
NEW YORK – 6th and 7th DECEMBER 2009 (this event is now oversubscribed and closed to new invitations)
The first American TippingPoint gathering is hosted in a partnership between the British Council; the Earth Institute, Columbia University; and the CUNY Institute for Sustainable Cities. The 2 day event will bring together colleagues from the arts and science communities across the New York Metropolitan region, alongside several influential thinkers from the UK.
BRUSSELS – 25th and 26th JANUARY 2010
This pan European event is a collaboration between TippingPoint, the British Council, the European Commission, the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Kaaitheatre Theater in Brussels. A major European gathering of individuals from across the cultural sector, including artists from all art forms, together with a broad range of scientists involved in the world of climate science will take place, symbolically, at the heart of the European institutions, in the building of the EESC in the centre of Brussels. A number of key climate change policy makers will also take part.
MONTPELLIER – 21st and 22nd March 2010
TippingPoint is working with the Domaine d’O in Montpellier and the British Council to organise a pan-Mediterranean event exploring the cultural context of climate change and focussing on WATER as a theme of urgent consequence to the mediterranean basin. The Domaine d’O offers an excellent context and location for a sensitive investigation and discourse on the connections of artists and scientists. We will address the theme of water with regard to its impact on climate change, from an environmental, social as well as economic perspective.
CAPE TOWN – 24th to 26th MAY 2010
Taking place over 3 days this gathering brings together TippingPoint, The Fynbos Foundation, the Ford Foundation and key supporter, the British Council. This first South African conference is a residential event taking place at the Spier Conference Centre in Stellenbosch. Artists from all art forms and key scientists will gather to explore the challenge of climate change and the consquences for Africa.
Future Plans
Conversations are underway with colleagues in Australia, India, China, and the East and West Coast of the US regarding events for Autumn 2010 onwards.
