Ilana Mitchell

Ilana lives in Newcastle and works in a number of different capacities, her own practice, other people’s or anything in between. She is an active member of the volunteer collective that run Star and Shadow Cinema, variously described as a “doughnutocracy” and “structurally inaccurate, ideologically sound.” Ilana is also creative director of Wunderbar, a festival of “contemporary performance, visual art and extraordinary happenings that puts audiences at the heart of the experience.” For Wunderbar, Ilana works with artists interested in people, in spontaneity and immediacy, and make works that have cultural and political urgency.
