A curious sailor

Jo Royle

My life as a trans-ocean sailing skipper taught me about our intimate relationship with the sea and the barriers that have been built between society and the natural world. It was heart breaking to discover beaches of trash on remote islands, such as South Georgia in the southern ocean. Its been rewarding to embark on adventures with corporate sponsors to establish methods of reducing our weighty foot prints through smarter systems and product design. It’s fascinating to explore solutions with people from eclectic and diverse backgrounds. Maybe it was daft to build a raft out of 12,000 plastic bottles and sail it across the Pacific.
